Good news for India as not one but four films have been shortlisted for nominations at the upcoming 2023 Oscar Awards. 'Chhello Show' ("The Last Film Show'), 'All That Breathes', "The Elephant Whisperers' and 'Naatu Naatu' song from period drama ‘RRR' have been shortlisted for nominations in four different categories at the 95th Academy Awards.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the body behind the awards, on Tuesday announced the shortlists in 10 categories. The nominations for the 95th Academy Awards will be announced on January 24, while the Oscars ceremony will be held on March 12, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles. Directed by Pan Nalin, 'Chhello Show' has been shortlisted in the International Feature Film category and will be competing with 14 other films including 'Argentina, 1985' (Argentina), 'Close' (Belgium), 'Decision to Leave' (South Korea) and 'All Quiet on the Western Front' (Germany), to make it to the final. 'Chhello Show', produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Dheer Momaya, is a Gujarati-language coming-of-age story of a young boy's love affair with cinema in a village of Saurashtra.
Meanwhile, the song 'Naatu Naatu' from SS Rajamouli's magnum opus ‘RRR' has found a spot in the Best Music (original song) shortlist. This is the third major international nomination for 'Naatu Naatu', which is composed by MM Keeravaani and penned by Kala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj. The song was previously nominated for a Golden Globe and Critics Choice Award.
